The GDP-C is designed for testing the permeability of dry gases on films and similar materials according to the manometric principle. The sample is put between the top and bottom part of the permeation cell. The volume of the bottom part is as small as possible and known. Prior to each test the bottom part of the permeation cell is evacuated. During testing the top part is filled with the test gas. The gas permeating the material causes a pressure increases at the bottom part of the permeation cell. You can detect the gas permeability by evaluating this increase in pressure in relation to time and the device-specific volume. The increase in pressure during the test period is evaluated and displayed by an external computer. The PC is connected to the GDP-C with a serial interface. The various methods allow for the determination of the necessary TECHNICAL DATASHEET energy to break a specimen – having a known cross-section - then calculating its resilience value at a given conditions. The potential energy of the hammer is known and it varies depending on the hammer’s shape, weight and release angle. The absorbed energy to break the specimen can be determined after measuring the ascent angle of the hammer after the impact. The test methods to perform with this structure are Charpy, Izod and Tensile Impact. Differences among these test methods are related to the way the specimen is mounted and how it is impacted.

Charpy method: The specimen, rectangular shaped, is positioned horizontally and is broken with one oscillation of the hammer only; the impact line is centred between the two specimen supports.

Izod method: Specimen, rectangular shaped, is blocked at one end in vertical position and it is broken with one oscillation of the hammer only; the impact line is at a fixed distance from the blocking point of the specimen. Tensile impact method: Specimen is inserted in two blocking brackets and it is broken with only one oscillation of the hammer which stresses the specimen, dumb-bell shaped, along its longitudinal axis.

The Pendulum Skid Tester is the high quality skid resistance testing equipment. Originally designed in the 1940s in the US, the instrument was further developed in the 1960s at the UK Transport Research Laboratory for the testing of road surfaces. The pendulum measures the frictional resistance between a rubber slider mounted on the end of a pendulum arm and the test surface. This provides highway engineers with a routine method of checking the resistance of wet and dry surfaces to slipping and skidding, both in the lab and on site. It is based on the Izod principle: a pendulum rotates about a spindle attached to a vertical pillar. At the end of the tubular arm a head of known mass is fitted with a rubber slider. The pendulum is released from a horizontal position so that it strikes the sample surface with a constant velocity. The distance travelled by the head after striking the sample is determined by the friction of the sample surface. A reading of Skid Resistance is obtained.

It allows the determination of the density of solid materials at a temperature of 23°C .
In a measuring range between 0.84 and 2.6 g / cm³ based on the use of spheres with a known density.
Small glass spheres (marker float) of known density are lowered into the column and stop when their density coincides with the density of the solution in which they are immersed. To determine the density of a sample it is necessary to immerse it in the same column and wait until it has stopped, having reached the equilibrium between its density and that of the solution.

Vernon Hills, Ill., November 18, 2016 — Masterflex peristaltic pumps with open-head sensor interlock, by Cole-Parmer, adds an extra layer of protection for technicians and operators tasked with tubing changes and routine maintenance. It is ideal for the pharmaceutical industry and other industries using peristaltic pumps. A retrofit system is available for adding this feature to pumps currently installed.

This technology is now available on Masterflex Easy-Load® pump heads compatible with all L/S® and I/P® drives. The extra layer of protection is particularly beneficial to prevent unexpected remote operation—when the pump is connected to a programmable logic controller or supervisory control and data acquisition system—similar to lockout/tagout procedures. Open-head sensors can also safeguard inexperienced or infrequent users of peristaltic pumps from injury while loading or changing tubing.

A retrofit solution is also available to upgrade existing Masterflex peristaltic pumps.
