The ProGage Touch Thickness Tester is a precision deadweight micrometer. Its advanced technology enables quick and accurate measurement of sheeted materials such as paper, plastic film, tissue and toweling, nonwovens, and textiles.
Featuring a color touchscreen and an intuitive user interface, operators can perform tests and report critical data quickly. A variable speed motor provides increased testing throughput with up to 20 tests per minute (based on configuration) while maintaining a high degree of accuracy. The rigid design guarantees exceptional parallelism, stability, and precise calibration.
The mechanical configuration features a weighted lever design reducing the amount of pressure applied to a specimen. This is significant when measuring the thickness properties of materials that can be influenced by varying pressures such as high loft nonwovens and paper tissue products.
The ProGage offers customizable parameters including measurement speed, dwell time, opening distance and return speed to allow the operator to meet specific methods or create and save custom setups. This feature proves beneficial when testing necessitates the capability to swap pressure feet to comply with various materials or standards.
To ensure data integrity and security, the ProGage offers password protected user profiles to limit access to specific screen views and lock the ability to modify parameters. Statistical data is displayed instantly upon the press of a single button, allowing for swift and comprehensive analysis.

Trust the Thwing-Albert Electronic ProTear to measure Elmendorf Tear Strength of a variety of materials. Thwing-Albert is the original manufacturer of the Elmendorf Tear Tester which was designed by Dr. Thwing and Mr. Armin Elmendorf. This method developed over a century ago established the industry standards used worldwide today to measure tear strength.
The ProTear provides a rapid and precise way to evaluate the tear resistance of sheet materials including paper, textiles, roofing products, plastic film, and foils.
The electronic model features a touch-screen panel that allows for a simple one-touch process to run tear tests and track data. Two different pendulums are available with various augmenting weights and can be configured to meet capacities from 200g-12,800g. MAP4 Software can be used to evaluate the sample test results with dynamic tear data calculated at every point of the test to allow for real-time data as the sample tears.
Adheres to Industry Quality Standards for Elmendorf Tear Strength:
Test results should fall between 20% and 80% of your pendulum capacity. For example, if you are using a 1600 gram pendulum, you should expect to get tear results between 1280 grams and 320 grams**
The electronic model provides several enhancements over the Mechanical Elmendorf Model. All test results and statistics are calculated automatically and displayed on the touch-screen and you can print or connect to a computer for more extensive data analysis using MAP4 testing software.
The control panel provides one-touch clamping and test capabilities. Other functions include data entry of sample information such as sample ID, thickness, basis weight, sample direction and number of plies being torn. The “Units” key enables the simple configuration of result units.

Model Name/ Number | Inkometer 1100 |
Brand | Thwing Albert USA |
Warranty | 1 Year |
Store | up to 180 tack readings |
The Inkometer 1100 measures the apparent tack of printing ink under conditions closely approximating the dynamic conditions of the ink-distribution system of a printing press. The testing instrument provides the highest accuracy and efficiency for research and development, quality control and process evaluation to verify, test and improve quality.
This ink tack tester measures the integrated forces involved in ink film splitting and the effects of roller speed, film thickness, temperature and solvent evaporation.
The Inkometer 1100 consists of three rollers. The center roller is a temperature-controlled brass roller. The bottom roller is an oscillating rubber composition distribution roller. The top roller is a rubber composition roller attached to the measuring system which measures tack. Rollers are available for testing standard and UV inks. The brass roller temperature is controlled by circulating a coolant mixture provided by a Constant Temperature Circulator (CTC).
The tack is reported in gram-meters and represents the torque required to “work” the ink film at a known rate with predetermined film thickness and temperature.
The Inkometer 1100 multi-line display shows the temperature, tack, roller speed and test time. Tack readings can be exported to the RS-232 port, the integrated printer, or to a USB flash drive. Statistical reports can be viewed directly from the display. The Inkometer provides four test methods based on ASTM D-4361 as well as five user-configurable methods that are stored in non-volatile memory.

Model Name | Handle-O-Meter |
Applicable Industry Standards: ASTM D2923, ASTM D6828-02, TAPPI T498, INDA IST 90.3, NWSP 090.3.R0 (15)
The Handle-O-Meter measures “handle” which is the combined effects of flexibility and surface friction of sheeted material such as nonwovens, tissue, toweling, film and textiles. The data generated has been shown to correlate well with the actual performance of the material in production processes and finished product performance. This instrument expedites the evaluation of a product by replacing the use of a sensory panel to measure softness or hand feel which can be subjective and time-consuming.
Measurements are obtained effortlessly. Simply place the test sample over the slot that extends across the instrument platform and hit test. A penetrator beam pivots on a cam engages the sample and forces it into the slot. An LVDT, in conjunction with a torsion bar, measures the resistance encountered by the penetrator blade as it moves into the slot. Stiff materials offer greater resistance to the motion of the beam as it moves into the slot. Rough materials also exert resistance as they are dragged over the edge of the slot. The combined resistance is reported on a touch screen display.
Two interchangeable beams are available which provides versatility for testing different materials. Quickly change between a 100 gram and 1000 gram beam. With auto-ranging, the Handle-O-Meter immediately detects the beam in use and adjusts the range and resolution accordingly. The slot width is also adjustable to accommodate samples of varying thicknesses.
Test modes can be quickly set for single, double or quadruple measurements. The average is automatically calculated for double or quadruple tests.
Advanced software enables the unit to compute and display qualitative analysis of the test results including averaging, standard deviation and the high & low readings of a series of tests.

The JDC precision sample strip cutter has become the accepted standard for most corporations worldwide for preparing tensile samples of paper, paperboard, metal foils, nonwovens, films, tissue and a variety of other materials. Lightweight and portable, the JDC features a 20” base length for added leverage and stability along with operator safety.
The JDC cuts test strips to an exact width and parallel throughout their entire length. The positive cutting action of the dual blades and precision ground base shear cut both sides of the sample at once assuring you of a clean, accurate cut every time. The cutting blades are made of special tool steel which is stress relieved by cycling between cold and hot temperatures to prevent the blades from warping.
The JDC cutter is designed to last for many years and a reconditioning service is available that provides the capabilities of a brand new cutter for half the cost. Reconditioning includes regrinding the cutting blades and providing a new base shear.
